discovering BERNAL HEIGHTS

Work those legs

You may be asking Bernal Heights? What is that....well it is a neighborhood in my beloved hometown city.

Anyways I have lived here for all 20 years of my life and I have never new this great hike/view existed UNTIL TODAY...I asked my dad for suggestions of what I could paint and he mentions painting the skyline of the city. He tells me that there is a hike near our house where you can see the bay, the bridge the whole city. So after dinner before the sun completely set my parents and I head on up the hill. I set off on the hike wearing a pink beanie and my fake "korean" glasses because I knew it was gonna be windy and didn't want stuff to get all up in my eye.

We walked and walked and it was literally ALL STEEP STEEP up hill stairs and plain side walk. I was like bahh my thighs my back my dad totally turned around and was like your back? As my 2 of my future apartment mates would say "we're old ladies". As we kept on trekking up the cement side walk then the stairs and then the dirt hill I was wondering when are we going to get there already, it seemed never ending BUT we finally got to the top and the view WAS amazing. All the buildings, the houses, and the greyness that covered the city a hazy looking sunset, mountains and to the side the freeway, it was all so beautiful. It was truly a view that epitomizes San Francisco. Colors were a little dull for what I want to paint so I'll have to head on up another day and work my thighs and calves another day.

On our way back down we ran into this little rock trail maze thing that someone made and I immediately wanted to do it and insisted everyone else come too. My dad was totally in (it's always my dad and I who are the kids and my mom's always the one who is unenthused). We begin the what we thought was a maze but then discovered it was just a spiral heading to the center. Half way through my dad and I keep following the spiral like little happy kiddies and my mom goes this is boring I turn around and SHE CHEATED! She's standing in the center and she says "HE he I'm done". My dad and I say repeatedly "You cheated mom. You have to start at the beginning" because those are the rules of ever game right? If you cheat you start again but nope my mom was done and goes eh and just steps over the rock lines and out of the rock trail/maze. What a party pooper haha.

Next on our hike down we run into a slide and my dad and I decide we're gonna slide down my mom waits for us at the bottom. We take two pieces of card board and ATTEMPT to proceed down the slide. Ready, set ANNNNNND we're stuck. Image this sounds mean but a super chubby kid trying to get down a slide, that was us...the slide was too damp so kinda created some problems. My dad ended up walking down but I of course insisted and ended up doing this whole scoot scoot maneuver with my butt and shoes (I ditched the card board). Finally we returned home where I enjoyed a refreshing fruit popsicle. I think that kinda defeated the little hike work out I did but eh its ok...it's a start.

Overall cool new hike, beautiful view AND some great memories with my moms and pops.

recap on my 20th birthday

Ok so keeping up with a blog is A LOT harder than I thought but let me update on the past couple of days..

SUNDAY
Was my birthday and a really great one at that. Went to Golden Gate Park with Palina for a the FREE Alice Concert!! Second concert in my life! WOW sounds really sad...the first one was one of those American Idol tour ones too. haha. Before going to the park we stop by 9th and 10th ave to grab sandwhiches at Toasties...COULD NOT find it. Then I suggested Yellow Submarines and I was like "It's down this block on the corner right? Yea I'm pretty sure". We walk to the end of the block and WAH it's not Yellow Submarine is something Gyros FAIL so we just went to Gordo the carne asada burittoe (<-- that looks very incorrect). SOO good the pork remined me of kalua pork mmmm. So we took our burritos and sad on the grass listening to Oneeskimo and Kris Allen waiting for Lifehouse which was the last act. So much fun we got to BURN in the sun (poor Palina's shoulders), eat burritoes, snack on apple rings and interesting tasting kettle corn courtesy of Palina all the while people watching. TONs of cuties (not guys but babies). The highlights are as follows:
  1. CUTIE babie with this outfit with a tail on the back (he sat behind us)
  2. Kid who stuck 2 gummie worms up his nostrils (to the right of us)
  3. Lady who was a little large wearing a bikini top shopings LOTS of stomach and LOTS of cleavage DANG....palina could not keep her eyes off her (in front and to the right of us) Palina was like Lilo and her love for taking pictures of large people haha. "Aren't they beautiful...." -- Lilo
  4. Kid who was AMAZINGLY standing on his dad's shoulders. What was amazing was he was in complete balance and the dad didn't even seem pained. (in front)
  5. STUPID drunk girls and smoker weedy guy (how trashy and impolite to the environment AND people around, no one wants to SECOND HAND smoke your drugs!)
  6. Lastly LITTLE CUTE ASIAN GIRL who has pig tails each tail curled with a curling iron, a little hat, large head (like kids do) and a REALLY delicious looking drumstick ish ice cream chocolate bar. I wanted to steal HER and eat her ice cream.

So those were the highlights we eventually squeeze our ways ALL the way to the front when Lifehouse played SO COOL! We were really close and could see their face. I really like one of the drummers he looked really sunburnt, had a sunglasses tan, wore a beater, did funny poses and had kinda scraggly hair that I mentioned I wanted to braid..and comb. AMAZING.

Fast forward to at night went to eat at UM MA SON (korean people's what does this mean? i'm curious) for dinner. It was slightly awkward because at first we were the only people in the restaurant so the owner and waitress just stood and literally stared at us...And the owner her english was not that hot either. This was the conversation: She asked me how mild, medium or spicy for my tofu soup...
ME: How spicy is spicy?
Owner:OOO ok :D spicy..." in an asian accent.
ME: uhhh is the medium...
Owner: O medium? OK :]
ME: umm ok medium.

Dinner was good with the family. After parents and I decided to go to Genki Crepe could NOT find it walked up and down the block of Genki Ramen. My dad swore this one shop that it and was like they must have closed. My mom kinda was over the whole thing and I just REALLY wanted (INTERJECTION: MY MOM JUST CAME BY AND GAVE ME A FRESHLY BAKED LEMON CUPCAKE WITH SPRINKLES!!!!) ok sorry I've been smelling them and really wanted one. I really wanted a crepe. Just as we are about to give up my dad says lets walk up a block I think it might be on Clement we do and WAH LA! YAY BUT......I was kinda disappointed. My crepe was suppose to have nutella, whipcream, ice cream and strawberries... It had 3 pieces of strawberries equivalent to 1.5 whole strawberries and no nutella at all. *sigh* MONDAY and TUESDAY consist of Old Navy training yays......

read READ read
Ooo ok so on my to do list kinda getting a slow start to 1984 still on the teen pages... So far its good though. For those of you who don't know it's basically kind of like Brave New World one of those Uptopian futuristic books. The book's about a society where supposedly everything you do and say is watched. A society of no privacy and no freedom. Which just got me to thinking really that's the common denominator in all these books. In all these Utopian books they all depict a society that is extremely oppressed and controlled BECAUSE that IS the only way you can have Utopia a society where everything is perfect there is no trouble, no hate, no crime etc etc right? But that's the thing BECAUSE people are so varied, to have our own opinions, hobbies, interest there is always bound to be disagreement and ultimately all the bad stuff. So really Utopia is only possible when people are the same because if people are the same there are no diagreements no fights. OF COURSE people can disagree and not fight, but I'm talking about the people who aren't as restrained. SO that's what I thought this was really interesting too in this society their parties moto is...
WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
freaky/crazy...not only that but the national enemy is some dude who promoted and believed in freedom of speech, press basically the 1st amendment.

K too much blogging for today. Talk about about 1984 as it gets more juicy.

COOKING
Today I cooking extravaganza with my mom! A full day of cooking. We cooked lunch and then dinner together, super fun :] For lunch we made humongous omeletes like HUGE HUGE and it included tomatoes, onions, spinach, mushrooms and sausage. I also learned how to make hashbrown, pretty delicious if I say so myself. For dinner, best dinner I've cooked YET, porkchops with a grilled onion sauce on top. We also made steamed cabbage. It was really good. Ok I would go into detail but it is 3....am.

last note of this blog

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY :D KEKEKE. I don't know why I get soo excited when it's my birthday I just do, I don't even always do much but still just the idea I guess that its "MY DAY". I'm 20 so bye teenage years...*sigh*... The one downer so far about my bday was at 12 I couldn't do my run around the house, funky dance shake while saying "it's my birthday, it's my birthday" lots of times because I was sadly home alone. But it's all cool. More on my birthday last TODAY JUNE 27th.

my TO DO list

WOO first blog. Alright so a summer of MANY to do's and indeed it will be.

Every summer I always create a list of things I want to do during the summer and never really get around to them. But this summer is serious. I'm serious. In my mind this is my last summer of just "doing what I want". Before next summer I'll most likley stay in LA, hopefully have an intern and have to seriously be thinking about my future! How scary and dreadful. So the pressure is on and I am more determined to accomplish all or most of my to do's. So here they are...

1. READ read READ!
during the year there is never time to read for pleasure so i want to make good use of the summer and read tons of books. my goal is a book a week. i want to read classics AND expand my vocabulary. if you have any suggestions i'm all ears. my first read is "1984" i excited to really get started.

2. Learn to COOK
this has been a summer to do for like EVERS but this summer it has to be done because...i'm moving into the apartments next year and i cannot be starving of malnutrition or even worse starvation! so....gotta get on this.

3. Practice driving (so I feel comfortable) and learn to // park
must DO must DO. next year as a 3rd year i want to bring a car down to get from here and there and it'll make getting/having an internship so much easier. BUT my dad says he doesn't want me to die so I need to practice. So far learning to park is coming along, but I am still master JUST flat land and have yet to park in a tight spot.

4. Study Chinese
grrr placement test that expired after 3 quarters. yea so basically i need to practice so i'm good enough to pass out of chinese 1 like i did the last time i took it.

5. Paint
my goal is really to do at least ONE that is all i ask ONE painting for our apartment, but I need oil paints...and still am looking around. SO PRICEY so as of now that is put on hold...

6. Work out
so i dont become a big piece of poop and lard :/

SO THOSE are all my PERSONAL goals of this summer. Every day I will blog and we'll see just how well I keep to them. Let's hope for my sake I keep to it.
